Weldon B. Drennan, Jr.
Weldon B. Drennan, Jr., 65, of Beaumont, died Thursday, February 8, 2007. Weldon Jr. was born July 3, 1941 to Weldon B. “Pappy” Drennan Sr. and his wife, Lois Funk Drennan.
Graduated from South Park High School Beaumont and graduated Lamar College with an engineering degree in Mathematics and Physics. Weldon started his teaching career in 1964. The various school districts in which he taught include Beaumont ISD, Port Neches ISD, and Bridge City ISD.
In 1967 he opened Drennan Boat Supply. He had a love of sailing and anything connected to that passion. By starting his own boating supply company, he was able to further indulge his love and interest in the nautical world.
During this time, he became involved in a program designed to pass on his love and interest of sailing and the sea to young men in the area. This program was appropriately named “Sea Scouts” and had many members who still fondly remember the teachings and time spent with Weldon Jr.
In 1987, Weldon retired from teaching to dedicate his efforts full time to Drennan Boating Supply.
At age 13, Weldon became a Ham operator. In 1967 he went on further to become a MARS operator and remained one during the next forty years until his death. It was only natural his passion for electronics and radio should carry over into his business. Thru hard work and dedication, he built a small boating supply company into a thriving business that is now one of the leading boating supply and marine electronics sales and service companies in the golden triangle and parts beyond.
He is survived by his father, Weldon B. “Pappy” Drennan, Sr., age 98; his “children”, Bones, Moon, Pepi and Miss Daisy; and by various cousins, Jana McKenna and Margie Drennan both of Denton, David Drennan, Robert Daniels and Catherine Daniels all of California, Marsha Clarkson of Meadows Place, Texas, Richard Spell of Breckenridge, and Monte Spell of Arlington.
His mother, Lois Funk Drennan; his uncles, Robert Drennan and Donald Drennan; and aunts, Harriet Drennan Spell and Maureen Drennan Daniels preceded him in death.
He had numerous friends, Mary Burdine, Sam Contreras, and Shawn Singletary, whom he worked beside daily, being three of the closest.
He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
